Avide

And so in a short time, together with his sister Maria Stella, his brother-in-law Pippo Calcaterra, and today his young nephew Marco Calcaterra that one of the most interesting enological realities in southwestern Sicily has come to life. Fifty hectares of vineyard where, exceptional for Cabernet Sauvignon, the protagonists are the cultivation of the native vines: Frappato, Nero d’Avola, Inzolia and Grillo. The vineyards extend beyond Bastonaca, a town of Vittoria right in the heart of the DOCG Cerasuolo of Vittoria area, as well as in Acate and Chiaramonte Gulfi, the area where there is the Altopiano Ibleo, characterized by steep slopes, caves, bushes and carobs laid out among the geometrical and maze-like historical dry-stone walls, creating a scenery of another era. Carlo Ferrini, the highly esteemed internationally renown enologist, is also involved in this important high quality project.
Today the farm produces three white wines, Maria Stella, Lidiae and Riflessi di Sole besides the reds “1607” Frappato, Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico “Etichetta Nera”, Barocco, 3 Carati and a blend Sigillo completed by the spumante Method Classico Brut and Rosè from the Frappato grapes.
